The historic Caffè Bacchilega in Imola reopens its doors with Ponzi automation
Tuesday April 1 2025
In Imola, the historic Caffè Bacchilega from 1929 between Via Emilia and the main Piazza Matteotti was taken over by pastry chef Sebastiano Caridi, winner of the “best pastry chef in Italy” award in 2015.
The bar, café and pastry shop is one of the historic bars in Italy, in the centre of Imola under the clock tower. According to the conservation guidelines of the Superintendence of Fine Arts, the historic shape of the long and narrow structure of the premises has been maintained, with the seven original 1920s Liberty-style windows made of iron.
The renovation work on the premises, led by Giorgio Gonnelli and Sebastiano Caridi, has identified a functional use for the old swing entrances whose doors have been motorised with Ponzi automation, reusing the same original painted iron ones and preserving the relative brass handles.
Ponzi had already taken care of the premises of Sebastiano Caridi in Faenza and Bologna, through the installation of TOS automatic doors suitable for escape routes and automatic sliding doors for the interiors of the premises.
